Maggie Cheung appears for Audi

Maggie Cheung Man-Yuk has had a promotion contract with German car maker Audi for several years and appeared for them recently, looking relaxed and confident in a bulky sweater and black leather jeans. She is amazed when an Audi exec shows her a drawing of a car:

Faye Wong in benefit concert for Smile Angel

Slender as a knife blade and hyper-elegant, Faye Wong gave a benefit concert for the fifth anniversary of the founding of the Smile Angel Foundation. She was backed by the Philharmonie der Nationen from Germany, an orchestra with a lot of blond fiddle players.

Cutting the fifth anniversary cake with husband Li Yapeng. She is wearing a Herve Leger bandage dress that looks great on her; she might have stepped straight from the runway. I don't think her arm is five feet long although from this unfortunate angle it looks like she could slice into the cake from across the room.

Sometimes if you are going to perform you need to sacrifice fashion to practicality, in this case keeping warm:
As many are aware, the Smile Angel Foundation was set up by Faye Wong and Li Yapeng to help Chinese children who had been born with a cleft lip or cleft palette. Li Yan, their daughter, was born with a cleft; they took her to the United States for treatment.

Valerie Soe wins an award

Valerie Soe, whose blog you will find in our blog list to the left has won a Warhol Foundation Art Writers' Grant for beyondasiaphilia. It is more than well deserved although Valerie has some unfair advantages over other bloggers: she is creative, intelligent and, most important, writes very well. She is an award winning filmmaker, knows everything about Asian American culture which she teaches at San Francisco State and is the unchallenged expert on the work of Frances Ng.

Congratulations on a well deserved win.

This is the announcement by the Warhol Foundation.

Shu Qi cuts a ribbon for Vertu

Shu Qi went shopping for a mobile phone and wound up with a contract with Vertu to hype their products. No word whether she got to keep the phone she is holding; their base model starts at about €4000 (£3500 at the factory in Coventry). An interesting place to unload a few Euros.

Quite a belt:

Zhang Jingchu on a cold evening in France as ambassador for a brand that doesn't seem to be named in the story. She stepped outside for an appreciative French crowd, wrapped in puffy coats and with cameras at the ready:

Lin Chi-ling shoots "Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains"

Lin Chi-ling, like any MTA (model turned actress) wants to be know for her acting ability as much as her undeniably spectacular looks. Based on these stills from a scene shot in Hangzhou for "Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains" if she was this century's Sarah Siddons she might have a hard time convincing producers, directors and the movie-going public that she is more than just a pretty face. Full marks to the costume designer responsible this dress and shoes.
