Fan Bingbing celebrates the Solstice

Fan Bingbing gets goofy and then super-glam in honor of the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. The caption on the first picture was an exhortatory ""Get up and go out! Happy solstice! Friends!" And off she went.

Would you like to marry Fan Bingbing? Everything you need to know in one simple lesson...

"W" magazine features one of our two favorite Bingbings, Fan in this case. Lynn Hirschberg fell under her spell at Cannes a couple of years ago when she appeared in this Elie Saab number:

We find out a couple of things in the chatty article: don't ever invite Zhang Ziyi and FBB to the same party--both will find out beforehand and neither will show; Harvey Weinstein used his own jet to deliver a dress to FBB for the 2012 Oscars; she says she is lazy about learning English, but with a few hundred million fans in China, Hollywood isn't that important. Most importantly, though, she revealed the way to win her heart: "I am known for my hair. But it is my dream to cut it and dye it blue. I’d like to have crazy hair!" She sighed. An envoy from Chopard was knocking at the door with diamonds for her, and the tailor from Valentino was ready with the lace gown that she had agreed to wear that night. "If I ever find a boyfriend who lets me cut my hair and dye it blue, I will marry him," she said as she went to answer the door.

Fan Bingbing channels Elizabeth Taylor; Li Bingbing doesn't get married

Our favorite Bingbings haven't been making movies recently but have kept busy in front of still cameras for fashion pubs.

Fan Bingbing covers a few decades with a retro 1960s/1980s vibe (leaving out the psychedelic 70s) for "L'OFFICIEL" reminding one of a more willowy Elizabeth Taylor.

Fan Bingbing hypes wedding dresses

It's time for the Qixi Festival the "Chinese Valentine's Day" although there is no St. Valentine in the Chinese list of non-corporeal beings--he didn't travel much after he was beheaded in Rome around 270 AD. Like the mid-February celebration in the West that it seems based on, (although Qixi predates St. Valentine being separated from his noggin by a couple of centuries) the Qixi Festival is used to sell goods and services to the romantically inclined or those who wish they were. Everyone tries to get into the act: for example the Taipei Zoo had a family reunion of mother and baby giant panda. Candy is a big seller as are stuffed animals and jewelry.

The PRC has taken official note of the commercialization of Qixi with arts and culture bureaucrats viewing with alarm loss of traditional values connected with the festival--which in itself is traditional, in China and everywhere else in the world.

Fan Bingbing and the press agents for her newly released romantic comedy "One Night Surprise" got into the act with a mega-spread in a Chinese bridal magazine. Ms. Fan and her co-star Arif Lee are the hottest screen couple since Bogart and Bacall according to the unbiased view of the hard working publicists charged with selling tickets to the movie.

Fan Bingbing drinks Champagne and lays some PDA on Kim Meng

Fan Bingbing stole the show at the premiere of "One Night Surprise" when, after posing with co-stars Aarif Lee and Jiang Jingfu along with a few props:

she decided to slug back some celebratory bubbly (or at least act as if she was doing so)

and "drunkenly" paw a not really started Kim Meng, the film's director.

Hijinks and hilarity ensued; a good time was had by some.

What's for dinner? Fan Bingbing is for dinner.

Fan Bingbing got together with co-stars Jiang Jinfu and Arif Lee to hype their upcoming release "One Night Surprise".

Ms. Fan shared the dinner table with a large dead fish:

Pretended to thump on a bass fiddle:

Looked seductively at her abs-flashing co-star:

And looked as if she was ready to get down to business (hint: she--or her character--probably doesn't since "One Night Surprise" is billed as a romantic comedy):

Fan Bingbing hits the Hollywood glamor look

Like Zhang YuQi at the opening ceremonies, Fan Bingbing went ultra glam with a satin creation by Russian designer Ulyana Sergeenko, complemented by diamond accessories and a simple, dramatic hairstyle. This is why designers from all over the world compete to have her wear their dresses at big events and particularly at Cannes, where she has caused jaws to drop for the past 14 years.

It's official: Fan Bingbing is the Queen of Cannes

The Hollywood Reporter and luxury shoe merchant Jimmy Choo presented FBB with THR's first annual International Artist of the Year award, an engraved Lucite paperweight. No word on the criteria for the award or whether there will be a second annual presentation next year.

With English actress Naomie Harris and Jimmy Choo CEO Pierre Denis:

Fan Bingbing and the gang at Cannes, 2013

It's May and it is raining on the sun-kissed Mediterranean shore of the land of liberté, égalité and fraternité which means Fan Bingbing is ruling the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival. FBB has become such a fixture at Cannes that it would be real news if she skipped a year. To the relief of fashionistas, reporters for the rag trade papers and hungry photographers she was once again the Queen of Cannes.

The big event was the premier of Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby"--early reviews indicate that Gatsby remains an unfilmable story but something had to kick things off so it might as well be a 3-D version of a work that refuses to live beyond the printed page. Zhang Ziyi, a member of the jury for the prix un certain regard was cool in Dior while Zhang Yuqi was either a perfect representation of old Hollywood glamor or a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen.

First FBB, elegant and almost regal (missing only a tiara) in a Louis Vuitton ball gown with a train that might be unmanageable for a lesser mortal:

Zhang Ziyi stopped by the premier on her way to a jury meeting helping decide which young and not well known director's career will get a huge boost and a pile of cash for distribution for winning un certain regard. If you ever wondered "who wears a trouser suit at one of the biggest fashion events of the year?" there is now an answer--the Divine Miss ZZ does, although her outfit came straight from the Dior couture atelier.

Her spiky wig seemed like an accessory to her outfit--it isn't a very good look for her, reminding one (at least this one) of aging divas like Sharon Stone.

Waiting to make her entrance. It looks as if someone's navy is pretty well represented:

The diamond jewelry and ruby clutch, her dramatic upswept hair style along with matte, pouty makeup and, most obviously, the daring decolletage of Zhang Yuqi's dress by Russian designer Ulyana Sergeenko (more on her later) combine to stay just this side of tacky. Another carat of bling or an extra millimeter of fabric from the neckline would have pushed her onto a few worst dressed lists. She makes it all work, though.

The guy with the best seat in the house gets an eyeful:

Fan Bingbing tours a Barbie factory.

FBB puts on a Peter Pan collar and finds out where Barbie dolls come from. Strange but true. She should have spent her time at a San Rio plant with Hello Kitty.

Just too precious...

...particularly this one.
