The last trip down the red carpet for on the sun kissed Mediterranean shores for Fan Bing-Bing and Li Fei-Er, covered by Zimbio. We aren't quite finished with this chapter of our heroines' lives but this is definitely the beginning of the end.
Li Fei-Er with co-star Zi Vi:
And as is generally the case you can find more pics from dleedlee.
Some of my favorite actresses from Hong Kong movies, especially Teresa Mak Ga-Kei

To this we've come--Fan Bing-Bing's wave decoded, Li Fei-Er all at sea. Cannes
Alerted to another appearance by our new power couple at the Cannes Film Festival by looking at (constantly trawling for bits of information) Dennis Lee's blog I followed his lead to sina.com, this time trying the sina United States portal, stumbling into this page. While any tech savvy blog owner could save the images in a usable format with a few clicks, it took me the digital equivalent of chipping them out of a stone frieze. This was as much an exercise in navigating a Chinese website while using unfamiliar tools as it was coming up with yet another Fan Bing-Bing/Li Fei-Er post.
Google tranlate, a blunt instrument indeed, the caption on the pictures at sina.com which seem to be from a huge user generated set of forums that sina hosts is rendered thusly:
"Fan Bingbing Cannes fame playing the goddess of the chest. May 13, the main competition single film, "Sunshine of Chongqing" (Chongqing Blues) held a press conference after the Fan Bingbing put an LV Baiqun prepare for the next interview. Fan Bingbing large set of dress to the "Greek Goddess" wind, a big show of spring chest".
Works for me.
She is definitely in a goddess gown which is wired and constructed to emphasize her cleavage--one shoulder, tightly cinched at the waist with flowing lines. The neutral greyish color works nicely.
Her lame wave to the crowd may be a result of overcoaching. The woman on the right is holding what looks to be a light meter, if such antiquated things are still used, while the guy n the other side is preparing to poke her in the eye with the broken rib of an umbrella. Both of them seem to be arranging her hands and arms and one begins to think that the poor woman was simply overwhelmed with instructions on what to do when. Although after her wig/hair/hat look at the Louis Vuitton ready-to-wear show Yves Carcelle might have sent a red carpet SWAT squad to make sure it didn't happen again.
Li Fei-Er in an uncomplicated one-shoulder frock that suits her pretty well. Even the color--the shade of orange that is used in life jackets and boats so that survivors can be spotted by search and rescue teams--is fine, especially for daytime. But once again the almost matching lipstick pushes the whole thing over the edge into "what was she thinking" land.

Even more from Cannes: Li Fei-Er, Chongqing Blues - Premiere Red Carpet
But first, two images of the Cannes Film Festival poster with Juliette Binoche, an actress at whose shrine I will always worship.
French riggers work on a mega-sized version of the poster.
(poster images from xinhuanet)
More of Li Fei-Er on the red carpet for Chongqing Blues wearing a ruched and pleated fuschia off the shoulder gown that works for her. Not sure about the lipstick matching the dress look:
She is accompanied by Zi Yi who is wearing a white evening suit that would have been great at the senior prom in 1978. And brown boots. It is as if the actors in Chongqing Blues were issued these dumb boots just before they got on the plane and were told they had to wear them on the red carpet.
The most dangly of dangly earrings casting a strategic shadow:

Chongqing Blues Stars and Director, Cannes photocall
One of the enduring and welcome traditions of film festivals or any other place where lots of celebrities gather is the photocall where evening gowns are worn at 10:00 AM and jet-lagged actresses hope the pictures going out around the world won't include any in which they look goofy. This was for Chongqing Blues.
Fan Bing-Bing working on her billion yaun smile:

We have a winner! The dress, with its teired flounces, long pleats and off the shoulder neckline, has benn done forever--because it has worked forever. The color suits skin tones wll and the butterfly jewelry accent at her waist is a nice touch.

Still working on that wave. The guy in the back with the Hitler haircut looks so offended he must be a rep from the How to Wave school Fan Bing-Bing attended.
Helpful hints for Li Fei-er on how to lean on a prop:
One of the tricky parts: make sure you show the zillion dollar ring and bracelet that have been loaned to you:
Li Fei-er flying solo:
Another great smile. The hat with the dangling earings work very well:
A safe choice--a sequined dress with a deep-V neckline and deep reverse pleats on the skirt with black insert. Her pose here, though, shows why it is almost always best to just give them a big smile.
From the back:
Director Xiaoshuai Wang, Fan BingBing and Zi Yi, with the photographers yelling "No, Mr. Wang your other hand".
Saving the worst for last--Hao Qin in a suit that beggars description. While the brown boots definitely don't go with it, might as well wear them since nothing could match that suit. Li Fei-er does her best to distract us from it.
But she gives up, showing just how appalled she is with having her sequined frock overshadowed by Hao Qin's iridescent, probably glow-in-the-dark monstrosity:
