People's Daily had the official English language version of her obituary and the web was full of remembrances of the effect she had on people. She was an astonishingly sexy performer--the camera loved her full lips, perfect for bright red lipstick, and her remarkable hooded eyes with their heavy lids and come hither look.

Nine years can seem like such a long time ago and yet when I see images of Anita like those from "The Heroic Trio", I still feel a tug at my heart.
ReplyDelete2013 will mark the 10th anniversary of the passing of both Anita Mui and Leslie Cheung. I am anticipating wonderful tribute programs to them at the HKIFF and HK Film Archive -- and hope that those two organizations won't let me (and other fans of Anita and Leslie) down...
Anita Mui, I still love her music until now... too bad she had to pass away that young.

ReplyDeleteYTSL--2003 was a bad year for Hong Kong movies and music, losing both Anita Mui and Leslie Cheung. It would be nice if some of their DVDs were re-released in pristine new transfers but the chances of that are probably as good as the chance of Hong Kong being handed back to the UK, with the shrinking market for DVD (as opposed to video on demand) product.
